Manor Primary School

Mental Health & Well-being

Pupils are happy at this school.

They make friends easily and get on well together.

They said that staff are caring and kind. Pupils are confident that staff will listen to their concerns.

They told inspectors that staff do their best to help them to overcome any difficulties.

At Manor Primary School our aim is to promote inclusion and good mental health and wellbeing by ensuring children are emotionally ready to learn and be the best that they can be. For most children being confident and resilient is developed through quality first provision which includes:

  • Calm and protective school environment by all staff for everyone
  • Breakfast for all together in class
  • Thoughtful Thursday – focusing on current issues focusing on the world, promoting what is good and bad mental health and equality and diversity through story, managing empathy and feelings
  • Recognise and identify issues early and class teacher provides time and support
  • Mindfulness, peer massage and chair yoga
  • PE lessons that focus on being healthy
  • Rewards through school values

Some children may experience times when they are vulnerable and are displaying behaviours that need additional emotional support. Early intervention is delivered and we have several types of provision and resources to do this.

As the headteacher, I work tirelessly to ensure the emotional needs of our children are met through the provision provided at Manor. Where we cannot meet the needs of children, I work closely with other agencies such as CAMHs, Leapfrog, the school nurse, social care and Paediatricians, the LA’s Vulnerable Children’s Inspector etc to enable all children to be the best that they can be.

When children leave our school, they are...

Resilient

Actively kind and compassionate

Able to explain and manage their feelings and emotions

Fully prepared to learn on a daily basis

And are the best they can be
