Physical Education
It's not about winning or losing, it's about how you play the game.

Intent
At Manor Primary School, we recognise the importance of Physical Education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the role it can play in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development.
We are committed to supporting the health and well-being of our children and understand the impact physical activity and sport has on this.
We want our children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices.
PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving. It can teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities.
We also want to teach our children how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.
Our curriculum aims to improve the well-being and fitness of all children at Manor Primary School, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes.
Implementation
The aims of the Physical Education curriculum will be achieved by:
- Developing competence in a range of physical activities.
- Being physically active for sustained periods of time.
- Analysing and evaluating performance through the use of video technology using ipads.
- Taking part in competitive games and activities.
- Living healthy, active lives.
Planning
Short term planning for the P.E curriculum is taken from Complete PE. This has been embedded across the school and we are developing an assessment approach using Complete P.E.
Swimming
As part of our P.E curriculum, children in key stage 2 will be given the opportunity to experience swimming lessons everyday for one week for an hour a day. This will enable all children to be safe in the water and will give them the chance to experience a wider range of physical activity.
Impact
We will measure impact of this through:
- Monitoring of the curriculum
- Floorbook/planning scrutinies
- Learning walks
- End of unit assessments
- End of year assessments
